How do you install Window Film?

The following photos show a standard step by step installation.

Step 1:The first step in the installation process is the protection of the area that will be filmed and the thorough cleaning of the glass surface. We need a minimum of 36" work space in front of each window to properly install the film. This allows room for our installer as well as any ladders or additional equipment that may be required. The areas should be cleared prior to installation.

Step 2: After the glass has been cleaned, water (with a few drops of soap) is applied to the surface of the glass as well as to the adhesive side of the film. This allows for easy positioning of the film. The film is then ready to apply to the glass. Try to imagine handling a giant piece of Scotch Tape™ without having it stick to itself. There are no fumes or odors.

Step 3: Once the film has been positioned on the glass, the edges are trimmed. Dennis makes it look easy, but one slip and the whole job is ruined. No matter how good the material, the installer is the key to a good job.

Step 4: The next step is to squeegee the excess water that is between the film and the glass. Any residual moisture left after the squeegeeing process will dry during the curing process (usually in several days during ideal conditions and no more that 30 to 60 days). Manufacturers specify that the film will be fully cured within 60 days from the date of installation. This is the part where you the customer have to have faith. The installer does his job and leaves everything looking good. The next day your new film will look awful, having turned cloudy and full of bubbles. A note to commercial clients, if you warn your tennants ahead of time, you won't have those "morning after" phone calls. For you residential customers, tell your spouse to "chill out" and check it again in a few days. Remember, the manufacturer warrants the entire installation.

Step 5: The squeegeeing process is a very important step in the installation process. We take great care in the protection of your floor coverings during the installation to insure that there will be no water damage. Working with window film makes any other trade look easy.

Step 6: The final process involves inspecting the installation and performing any fine tuning that needs to be done. Window film installation must be perfect the first time. Nothing can be done to hide mistakes. How many times have you felt comfortable with a companies estimator and office staff only to find the craftspeople substandard and messy? We pride ourselves on hiring the best people. We have a report card for every job, check it out!
